Actually, this is also one of my problems. I have a website hosted on one of the free servers. I know it's up during the day. but what i'm concerned is during the night when I can't monitor it. Any software suggestions, webmasters?

An uptime tracker tracks the average uptime of an unlimited amount of days.
A uptime tracker which a webhost uses checks whether a site is online every 30mins and...

if site is online, give the site a good mark
if site is offline, give the site a bad mark

the uptime tracker gets the totals of the marks
so if website has 100 marks and 50 of them are good marks
website gets 50% uptime.

The thing about this system is if, website has had 100% uptime for three months and then becomes offline for five days, the uptime rating will say 83% (estimated). And if website has no downtime since then, the uptime rating will eventually go up and up as website gets more good marks so the uptime will eventually be 90%, or 100% if enough time goes past.

Ofcourse.. you can try these free uptime monitors..

www.siteuptime.com / www.uppanel.com

They monitor your site every 30 minutes ( free ) or upto every 2 minutes ( paid ) and email you if your host goes down. Even sms is possible.

Uppanel even has a Local desktop ping client that checks regularly.
